It's difficult to see clearly from the photo, but it looks suspiciously like the two long antennas are able to swing back and forth. In other words (and confirmed by Geo) it appears to be a [rather expensive] dowsing contraption. Every LRL enthusiast should get one.

I know how you can get one without using any of your own money in five simple steps?
  • Simply borrow $6000 from a relative or credit card.
  • Buy the LRL.
  • Take up Carls $25000 challenge and find the lump of gold in a big field.
  • Receive your wonderful prize of $25000 and pay back the loan.
  • Walk away with a free LRL and $19000 in your pocket.
After all how can it all go wrong with THE BEST LONG RANGE LOCATOR EVER MADE?

Exactly!
... and even if it all goes horribly wrong, you can console yourself that you've received a valuable education in LRLs.

Here you can find a similar.....
http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...4&postcount=22
There is a generator with a 555 and the Rx antenna(s) is rotated on a bearing. Very simple....

This is generator with 8038.
And can choose 3 pulses.
Triangle
square
sine
And the frequency you want.

Come on it must be worth the money it looks like it’s got a “Stainless Steel Handle”

Although there seems to be a bolt or toggle switch sticking down that would probably catch the top of your hand when using it.
