Since the LRL forum will be receiving a general housekeeping overhaul, we see already some new categories of topics, such as swivel LRLs, pure electronic LRLs, and dowsing.
As I read through the archives, I see that most of the posts fit in one or more of these divisions. But there are some posts which don't fit any of the above. These are good posts that readers occasionally try to find, but they don't know what topics to look for them under. Some examples I have notices are listed below: • LRL theory discussions, relating to dowsing, MFD or pure electronic theories, without any particular LRL being examined. • General LRL news reports showing frauds stories, new LRL dealers, or showing factory contact information, etc. • LRL projects, such as Zahori, Ivconic ion locator, and others. • Discussions about forum rules and policies. I think if we are making an overhaul, it might be good to have a separate section for those kinds of topics which don't really fit very well in the current topic divisions. Here are some examples of threads that would don't really fit anywhere at present, but could easily fit in new divisions I described: These threads would fit well in a new division called "LRLs in the News and dealer information": LRL to detect molecules up to 100m http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18160 HELP ME OMNITRONNAOH http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18155 El Paso Times investigative reporting http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18292 DETECTOR LONG RANGE TREASURE GOLD DIAMOND LOCATOR http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17876 New Mineoro Importer in Europe http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17822 Fake Explosives and Drugs detectors http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17473 H3 Tec's Terms of Use - Good Grief! http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17714 Arturito http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17807 The deepest Metal detector http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17699 Calling all remote sensing pros for views on a new techology http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=17717 These threads may fit well in a new division of the "Misc" secton called "Forum rules and policy discussions": Thanks Carl http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18434 666 WINS! http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18350 Forum Decorum http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18316 I did not file any complaints http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18315 Oh Can't WE just Vote Qiaozhi OUT as Adimistrator http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18210 These threads might fit well in a new division called "LRL theories, testing methods and proof". But it might serve to give some ideas of how we could be better organized by having a few more divisions for the "none of the above" threads. Best wishes, J_P |

To which topic division can we put "electronic dowsing rod"?

Hi WM6,
Electronic dowsing rods are included with the electronic LRLs that have a swivel handle. Qiaozhi has made a division for electronic dowsing rods called: Long Range Locators Discussions on LRLs of the electronic variety which also utilize L-rods or other swiveling methods. Qiaozhi has also made a special division for LRLs that have no swivel handle and are fully electronic called: All-Electronic LRLs Discussions on LRLs which do not include swivel methods, including "Ionic" and "Pistol Detector" devices. And a third division for simple dowsing, map dowsing and pendulums called: Dowsing & Passive Locators Discussions on dowsing and non-electronic locators such as the Anderson rod. This is also the place for pendulums, bobbers, and Spanish Dip Needles. My post above was only for a few topics which do not fit in these divisions. Best wishes, J_P |

Put it in Dowsing & Passive Locators.
The description states: "Discussions on dowsing and non-electronic locators such as the Anderson rod ...". It doesn't say: "Discussions on dowsing and other non-electronic locators...". i.e. If the device includes a swivel method (whether there is any attached electronics or not) it goes in Dowsing & Passive Locators. I did discuss with Carl the possibility of splitting the site into more forums at the very start of this exercise, but we eventually decided to just keep it simple. I think it's fine as it is. |

I am confused now. If we are to put dowsing rods with electronics connected into the dowsing section, Then what are we to put in the section that is shown as here? Long Range Locators Discussions on LRLs of the electronic variety which also utilize L-rods or other swiveling methods. Best wishes, J_P |

As long as the changes are still underway, the thought occurred to me that the threads which discuss the all electronic LRLs and the swiveling LRLs are often combined to where it is hard to decide which one it belongs in. An idea may be to eliminate that distinction, and eliminate the problems of determining what to do with threads that contain both kinds of LRLs. If this was done, then we would have only the electronic LRLs and the non-electronic LRLs. This would make it easy to figure where to put our posts by whether it has electronic stuff in it or it doesn't, with no questions about what kind of electronic LRL.
There still is a distinction between the types, but there is no problem of figuring out where to post, or when to not make a comment about a type that your thread is not set for. What I am getting at is many of the members of the forum are not so adept at understanding these distinctions, and would not be capable of conforming to the rule to keep their swiveling comments out of an all-electronic thread. If this was a forum that consisted of all engineers with degrees and licenses, then it would be easy to keep on topic. But considering most members here are simply treasure hunters with only hobby level skills, and have language barrier difficulties, it seems harder to conform to the distinction between different types of electronic LRLs. Just a though. Best wishes, J_P |

The new thread started there has nothing to do with any electronic swiveling LRL. It is simply a silly rant where someone is trying to clutter the LRL forum with nonsensical allegations. Follow the randi money trail to the LRL skeptics Mike(Mont) This new thread should have been started in the "off topic" section, since it has nothing to do with discussing any electronic LRL device. This example serves to show how some members are not capable of understanding what is the difference between discussing an electronic swiveling LRL and discussing a rant about Randi's money. We see a few members are incapable of understanding the LRL discussion topics are not their personal soap box to post their rants against Randi or manufacturers of metal detectors. The forum suffers when a person insists on posting his rants in the electronic locator topics instead of "off topic". By ignoring the structure that is in place, we see how some people continue to work against any attempt the administration makes to organize the forum. It almost seems that some people here do not want the LRL forum to survive. Of course I an not an administrator, but if I was I would probably make a special section just as we did for Dell to keep his rants from clogging up ongoing discussions about electronics and other equipment. With the vBulletin software, it can be structured so the offending member cannot post in any section except his own rant section, while everyone else could answer his posts as well as the other topics. This would eliminate all future work of moving annoying rants from the serious LRL discussions. Just my thoughts, Best wishes, J_P |

Another new thread was started in a place that is completely off-topic.
It is only a congratulations for the new forum and a warning to members. It is cluttering up our fresh start at organizing the forum so we can find what we are looking for. This belongs in the off-topic section because it does not discuss any all-electronic LRL where it was posted: http://www.longrangelocators.com/for...ad.php?t=18446 Best wishes, ![]() J_P |
