Try this:

http://www.sentex.net/~mec1995/circ/hv/niondet/niondet.html

or buy this:

http://www.negativeiongenerators.com/iondetector.html

or this multimeter with electrical field detector;

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103175

".... EF detection works great and can detect EF fields from my CRT tv from over 15 feet away (without electrodes attached). I've even been able to detect where wires are inside the walls in my home with it (if you hold it like a stud finder). ..."
