I think you mean something like alchemist's symbols... like you can see in e.g. some Nicolas Flamel's book. If so... you need understanding the alphabet that is often like a sequence of egyptian hieroglyphs. This kind of search is never easy... but you can guess some symbols meaning comparing with other "alphabets" of the same time and region. If you are sure there is a bizantin inscription you must find some alchemy book of the region and start guessing. Often danger symbols are similar to european ones like you can find in Flamel's things (cause alchemy was maybe first example of global "culture")... others could be different or having different meaning. Very very often planetary symbols or particular characters like "S" are used to indicate particular metal and quantity (by repeated symbols like "SSS", that means lot of gold ). Anyway, be really careful before do anything... often when alchemy and symbols are present there are also trapdoors and similar things Kind regards, Max

I'm not an expert on that field... so I think I cannot give the informations you need to figure out meaning for that symbols. But there are lot of books on the topic: you have to search on the web and in some library for various meanings. E.g. there are a lot of templar related books that talk about secret writings and signs on monuments and the like. These are all good points where to start research. I'll start with finding a copy the book "Exposition of the Hieroglyphical Figures" by Flamel , that is kind of dictionary for various common glyphs then reading further stuff to match region and time according to your idea of signs origin. Best regards, Max

well... it's not easy: there are many kind of them... I'll trace a little what I know, read from books: (sometimes these facts seem coming from some old movie... but I read about that things too often to be skeptical of their reality when they could be there) - chemicals : sometimes treasure/gold etc is contaminated by really dangerous stuff like "venoms"; the most well known is Arsenic ... if it's present on the stuff the e.g. gold is darker than normal with red to brown colour. It can contaminate people just by skin contact , but much more easy by touching stuff with fingers and then touching eyes or other sensitive parts. Poisoning is really dangerous and can kill people. Keep in mind there are other kind of venoms that can kill just breathing powders and the like... so if you find e.g. a box or cache... use some mask before opening it, and of course, use always gloves before you know for sure there's no hazard. - pits, room/watertraps and secret rooms : often in castles and caves there could be deep pits you can fall in if you don't be careful - pits are often mask by some fake floor or horizontally-pivoted moving floor; room/watertraps are described in some Flamel things too: they are small rooms , in underground of e.g. castles, that close by entering the room or doing/not doing something in the room-> door close and room will be flooded by a water flux - room versions are like the water kind... but then other strategy is employed to make damages like e.g. arrows from walls or just blocking and leaving inside the people without chance of exit the room; sometimes secret rooms are made in a way that blocks of stone or other material will lock exit. Sometimes cords are used to trigger the trap, other times moving floor in the middle of room is preferred. - small nails/tips inside treasure chest: again it's venom, but this time enters by little scratch on skin people do recovering treasure from box/chest. There are a number of other things... but I think you get an idea of what there could be in a castle or other complex... even cave where there is a treasure. It was really often made by e.g. templars and others till maybe 1800. So be careful, study everything before doing a single move in an unknown environment. Kind regards, Max
