BIG CONTEST!
This is just for fun (no prize).
The following construction projects are from some electronics magazines which were all published in the same year. Guess the year (no fair looking or asking anyone). Each person gets one guess. 1. gas detector 2. laser TV system 3. LED flashlight 4. night vision scope 5. tunnel diode transmitter |

I expect this is going to be in a relatively old publication, but it must be after the first laser was invented, which was either 1959 or 1960, depending on who you believe. The semiconductor laser was invented in 1962, so let's go with that ...
1962 |

Quote:
tunnel diode was invented by Esaki in 1957 and was commercially available after few years. Laser systems were implemented just around 1960 so seems impossible before years 1962-1963 that magazines talked about applications of a completely new thing... and widely misunderstud at that time by common people. Night vision scopes principles were employed to build some units tested during Moon exploration in the late 60's... even if ideas about were present from at least 1930...practical units were made just after the introduction of the photomultiplier tube. The LED was commercially available in 1967... at that time General Electric was involved in researches and production. According to all that considerations I guess year could be 1968, for a magazine printed in US or UK. Best regards, Max |
