Radar Photography of Mountains/ may be with uwb pulses

Hello , I want to take radar photographs of mid and north east anatolian mountains. I researched the subject and i found that micro sar from byu.edu is suitable for this purpose. But it is very complicated and contains expensive parts for me. And naturally there is no pcb published , you have to reinvent everything.
I was hopeless until last night , i found that marconi was using uwb pulses for to communicate with vast distances. I searched the internet and papers writes that there is no vco or other traditional parts needed at uwb pulse transmitter. I thought may be I should use this. Anyone can help me for this project ?
