No, i did not try to modulate the laser with 400 Hz

Default IR is heat - not an LRL detector

Anyone can buy an off the shelf laser pointer heat thermometer. This is not anything you can use for mineral detection. There are literally an infinitude of different heat responses in nature. I know, I have worked on IR sensors extensively. Take for example FLIR - forward looking infrared (FLIR). Very sophisticated use of IR by the military. It has some neat use but THing is not one of them.
