I vote no also. Balance is needed on all topics.

From what I know there is no voting for administrators here unless the owner of the forum decides voting will be used to determine who is administrator.
Since it is a privately owned forum, I think we are fortunate that Carl appointed Qiaozhi as a forum administrator.

For one, Qiaozhi has contributed more of his time than anyone else, which is reflected in the number of posts we see he makes in the forum.
But his contributions are not simply making forum posts.
We see many of his posts are made to help people with technical things that range from electronics advice to handling file problems.

I see he often provides circuit solutions and other electronic information to people who experiment with LRLs.
It takes a special kind of person who is willing to help people in a cause that he does not agree with.
Keeping a remote sensing forum alive while allowing both skeptics and LRL believers to have their fair say is not an easy job.
Perhaps this is why we see overwhelming support from the skeptics, the undecided and the LRL enthusiasts all want Qiaozhi to stay as admin.

I see only two people who say they don't want Qiaozhi to administer the forum.
If this was not a privately owned forum, and if voting determined who is administrator, then it appears Qiaozhi would easily be voted as the admin by a landslide victory.
Could it be that Carl knows what it takes to administer a forum, and has chosen a very capable administrator?

Best wishes,
J_P

P.S. Thanks to Qiaozhi for a job well done... an often forgotten item.

I have a hard time believing that something like this was actually posted!

Wanting to remove the Administrator from Forum that has for years given you a place to post your ideas your LRL stuff is simply amazing!!!!

Lots of luck finding another forum which will let you post like Carl and Qiaozhi have here.

Talk about biting the hand that is feeds you!

I think we should not ridicule LRL developers even if we do not believe in the technology so long as they they do not ridicule conventional metal detector developers.

They should be welcome to have their discussions amongst themselves. If they all become rich from their finds that will be their proof. If they have fun, that is good enough too. If something they discuss sounds like real engineering/science, we might be able to benefit from it. If it sounds like pseudo-science, we can ignore it and let them discuss it to their hearts content.

I think what Qiaozhi and myself included are dismayed by are LRL marketers who appear to make unsubstantiated claims for the purpose of getting people's money -- i.e. ripping them off.

I suspect such people infect sites like this to create a belief system based on pseudo-science so that they can more convincingly sell and rip off people's money. Elaborate arguments with some scientific references can be quite believable to people who are not practiced in the scientific method. The nutrition industry employs similar techniques.

I have no problem with people espousing their beliefs or investigating these concepts, just don't do it corruptly for the purpose of swindling innocent people.

Unfortunately it is impossible to tell who is pure of heart and who is corrupt. Because of that, this website, which is mostly founded on scientific method, feels a duty to show some skepticism towards claims that might lead to some people being swindled out of money. It is more in the spirit of protecting LRL-oriented members, not harassing them.

However, I'm sure that many of us (myself included) who adhere to the scientific method do sometimes feel and express that LRL technology, as presented here so far, seems to be some kind of fantasy. I suggest we should restrain ourselves in the future so long as the LRL thread is not interfering with some non-LRL topic. If LRL builders are experimenting with electronics and physics, they rightly would like to take advantage of knowledge on this site. And LRL people should be careful not to interfere with discussions where people want to proceed using the scientific method, which requires much proof and demonstration of claims. Just common courtesy.

Now, I have nothing against free-for-all hot-tempered discussions as long as we create an area for that and everybody is warned that there will not be much courtesy there, so they can have fun flaming each other. But just keep it there. We could call it the Jackass thread or something.

So to all pure-of-heart LRL'ers, I apologize if I have been rude in the past. To corrupt ones trying to get money for false claims, I say begone!

Wow. Go backpacking a few days and look what happens!

Folks, first of all, I have the utmost respect for Qiaozhi; I have personally met him, and we see very much eye-to-eye about a lot of things. I wasn't even looking for admin help at the time but thought he'd be the ideal person. I was right.

Second, I would not allow anyone to moderate this forum except a skeptic. I have a large box full of LRL fraud that anyone is free to inspect and try out. I have no desire for an official Geotech representative to be an advocate for this crap.

Third, Qiaozhi has gone well beyond anything I would do with this forum, by fostering investigations and experiments into particular claims, especially those of so-called pistol locators. If those investigations did not produce good results, then continued skepticism is warranted.

Finally, even though Geotech is owned by someone who is highly skeptical of LRLs, I have nevertheless allowed pretty much unfettered discussions about them, even when a few of the participants overtly call me a liar, and even when others demand I shut this part of the forums down. Qiaozhi and I have also managed to keep the most cynical and disruptive skeptics under control. Go over to TNet and try to openly discuss LRLs, see where that gets ya.

I practically never personally visit this forum any more and have no desire to monitor it, so the day I remove Qiaozhi as admin is the day I shut down the RS forum.

Thanks everyone for your support. Well ... except the two (obvious) dissenters.
Although, as you can see from Carl's post, Ernie's feeble attempt to oust me from a position of power were somewhat academic. In other words, there was more chance of him flying to the dark side of the moon. Which, come to think of it, might not be a bad idea. I've heard that private space flights will soon be a reality, with KLM's Lynx spaceplane going into competition with Virgin Galactic. Advanced tickets are available from KLM for about £60,000. So presumably that means a one-way ticket could be purchased for half that price. There are over 3,000 members on Geotech, and a contribution of only £10 each could be money well spent. But now I've gone completely off topic and lost the plot.

One last think though ... Very good summary from Simon. I almost 100% agree, except for the part about a Jackass thread. We do not want to encourage "free-for-all hot-tempered discussions" of any form. The idea is to keep the discussions civil. Any out-of-hand posts are removed pretty quickly, and I would like to keep it that way. After all, we can agree to disagree, but we should all stay friends.
If anyone wants to winge and whine, they can do it over on TNET.

This is the Kind of attitude we are suffering all the time here on Geotech forum .

How would you like to talk and defend ourselve as LRL USER ? .

Since I'm member this is always the skeptick side which is making probleme .

Everybody knows that you are skepticks Carl and you so it 's always good to see

that Wolfs are fitting themlseves.

So don't worry QIAOZHI even if we aren't in democratie here on GEOTECH forum ( Carl

There should be no need to "defend yourself", as you put it.
There are plenty of members here who have no trouble whatsoever discussing LRL technology ... and that's all we ask ... simply keep it technical, and you will not have a problem. If you want to rant and rave, do it over on TNET.

Of course, if you're an advocate of dowsing then there is little to discuss here anyway, as there is nothing technical about two bent coat hangers, unless you want to try introducing magnetically levitated low friction bearings, or some other contrivance. But even then, the concept is somewhat pointless and you're bound to get a lot of flak.

Let's consider the Bionic devices, for example. If anyone is interested in developing a DIY device using the claimed principle of the Bionic, then please go ahead. I will be one of the first to assist, even though I can probably already predict the likely result of these experiments. Experiments are good, even those involving LRLs. They help to enhance our knowledge and sort the good from the bad.

At the end of the day, remember the old adage ... "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

I have just removed yet another post by Ernie. This time involving artificial insemination, which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread, or indeed anything to do with treasure hunting technology.

To Ernie - Despite previously giving you one last chance, I have left you teetering on the edge. One more post like the last, and you're history.

Go ahead ... make my day.

Obviously Ernie was determined to carry on and see how far he could push the limits of our patience on Geotech, and I have to inform you that he eventually found it. He now joins a very select group that have managed to get themselves banned despite the odds.

Goodbye Ernie.

I guess you are referring to uncle earnie and I don't know who else. What do you want???? I gave you a "B". That's not good enough? The "F-" was what I thought about your opinions on LRL's and lotto dowsing. Sorry for being honest.

Dear friends!
A few days ago I came to the forum and did not see this discussion.
If it means something to someone, I vote to keep Qiazhi administrator, from (at least) a couple of reasons:
- Education;
- Reasonable;
- Tolerant;
- Well-intentioned;
- "Voice of reason";
-etc, etc. ....
Regards!

I didn't want to ban Ernie, but he gave me no choice after blatantly defying my numerous warnings. It's as if he didn't believe I really had the power to eject him from Geotech, and wanted to call my bluff. But now he has to face up to reality. Actually, maybe that's a bit hopeful ... I should have said, now he has to face up to being ostracised from the Geotech forums.

Anyway, let's move on. This thread is long enough already.
