Hello i finaly made the Totem, but i can not detect metal only battery spark and magnets.Can anyone help?

Hi all,
Is it necessary for the totem, as stated in the book, to drill the plate completely or just cut the copper tracks at the back?
I am very limited in English language and I do not understand what to do exactly.

You really only need to cut the track, but it is easier to just drill a hole.

But I completely drilled the holes through the plate. Is there a problem or do I have to start over with another plate and drill only one side?
