Default msg to admin - Old domain name re-direct from thunting ?

If you still have a good working relationship with the thunting admin could a .htaccess file be set up in the /geotech directory so old forum links work ?

I am happy to supply a tested .htaccess file that will only need to be placed into the /geotech directory. Alternatively a .htacces file could be made to work out of the root directory.

If you are not sure what a .htaccess file will do here is a quick explaination..

.htaccess file controls access to directorys on webservers. They have many features. The feature specific to this would be a redirect. Every time someone loads a page at lets say thunting.com/geotech/forums/showthread.php?t=1 the .htaccess file will redicert it to geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1 makeing all the old bookmarks work. It can also be made to have a redirect page, it could thanks thunting for hosting the page and anounce the page is being redirect to the new site.

Had more of a think about this I have come up with a easy solution.

Goto Admin control poanel for vBulletin
Expand Languages & Phrases menu
Select Search in Phrases
Scroll down to "Find and Replace in Languages" secton.
Enter www.thunting.com/geotech/forums for the search for text.
Enter www.geotech1.com/forums for the replace text.
This should fix all the links in the forum posts

It will not fix links coming from outside but it will fix forum links and make life a bit easier.

If I understand what you're saying - this would only work if the old Geotech archives were still present on the Thunting server, which they're not.

No. thunting needs only 1 file. the .htaccess file. All the content is dealt with on geotech1

Same as this but a bit more complex.
