I have an idea to simply try LRL , and it requires no much work:
Take a FM radio, tap the first IF, rectify and smooth it, and make it trigger some audio device . (opamp + 555 for example) Then check if there are anomalies in the way it beeps. If it does then you can begin to improve it. Esteban could confirm if this is a good way to begin...
