IR band is very very broad, much broader tha human eyes visible spectra. EPR of outer electron shell is very narroaw single line (peak in to the gap), so detecting with classical CCD sensors and currently available IR lens and IR filters is almost impossible task, like finding needle in a haystack. There is a technique in radio encription known as frequency hopping spread spectrum. The halo phenomenon has this self freq.hopping attribute so must be detected using FLL or PLL tehnique because variations of influenced environment's parameters.
In my oppinion solution is reasearch in the longitudinal optics not classical TEM optics.
