Sounds very convincing work done by the bacteria but I'm not sure that their intervention is noticeable after a month or 2. What I think is very interesting and that struck me right from the start is the compass effect, that it can be studied without waiting for months or even years. I think the phenomenon is the result of a kind of modulation of the compass effect by the metal buried.
