Dell - as you seem to be confused into thinking there is some "magic" going on here - the simple experiment you refer to is the generation of eddy currents in a conducting pipe by a moving magnetic field, and a demonstration of Lenz's Law. This is
not "magic", and has nothing to do with dowsing (copper L-rods or otherwise). That is pure fantasy.
You'll need to come up with something better than that.
