Is there any difference which way the Tx coil is facing? I've never noticed any but I watched a video showing magnetic flux lines flowing in one side of the coil and out the other, so opposite polarity.

If u supply the coil with DC then ... yes the polarisation will go oposite, otherwise No.

Okay, thanks for info.

I read that magnet strength is the same at both poles, but in Howard Johnson's book "The Secret Life of Magnets" he plots the flux line strengths and the positive pole has slightly higher numbers. Not sure there is any significance here, but my question is "Does the polarity affect how the target responds?" Pulsed DC.

Not 100% sure.... but my answer is Not.
But we need at least one more life to learn all this

I couldn?t find a thing on it, either. Maybe it?s a tight-held coilmaker?s secret. LOL :)

Merry Christmas!

Still pondering this question. Howard Johnson referred to 'the stronger pole'. A DC pulse is going to be similar to a pulse induction metal detector but I couldn't find anything about coil polarity direction. Any ideas?
