Hi friends and LRD fanatics.

I was thinking on creating a skype net about long range detectors.
Has we all know we have diferent clock time from country to country. So i think that a good way to ensure contacts will be by using the Universal Coordinated Time (UTC time).
I ask to any of you, what do you think about this idea, so we can leave or send by email our name accounts on skype, or better leave it here on our personal account here on the forum.

Waiting for your responses

Regards

email ce3llp@mi.clThis does not sound like a good idea to me.
Reasons:
1. Skype is like a cloud... not a secure place. IT experts can penetrate the system and download what they want from the cloud.

2. Microsoft bought Skype and incorporated it in their Live software in May, 2011.
We all know Microsoft has the most easily hacked email and Live software online.
But worse, Microsoft is full of bugs.
Anybody who is able to run Linux prefers it because it is free, and it does not crash, and it runs fast.

3. You can expect that if you are using Skype, the Microsoft software will be watching everything you do online to cause a lot of advertising to come to your screen.
Maybe you don't mind seeing extra advertising, but they cause a lot of programs to run in the background which slow down your computer.
This is one reason why I use Linux when I can, because I don't like to look at advertising that came from Microsoft or Google programs are installed.
Linux does not force me to use Microsoft Windows operating system or Windows live, or any Windows or Google applications.
I can run only the services that I want if I don't use Microsoft or Google products.

4. I do not believe Skype or any other cloud type group can provide a good venue for people who build electronic things.
The problem besides security and slowing down your computer is Skype will do nothing that is not done better already in a forum such as this one.
Because people live in different time zones, they leave messages when they are here.
Then when their friends from different time zones arrive, they leave their answers and post new messages.
The forum also allows posting photos and diagrams, or uploading other files.
I see no way that Skype improves the facilities of a forum.

5. If people want extra features that are not found on a forum, they can usually find these features free.
For example, if you wanted to have a voice conversation with someone from the forum, you could use one of several free online voice message links.
You can find the same for free video links, and chat links or any other internet service free, without installing spy software that slows down your computer and compromises the security of your private files that you send online.

The topic of using Skype, or other post for this kind of topic belongs in the Off Topic (http://www.longrangelocators.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28) section, because it is not discussing any of the LRLs with swivel or all-electronic type that we reserve these areas for.

Best wishes, :)

OK folks - please try to create threads in the correct forum, as I don't want to spend all my free time moving stuff around.
I agree with J_P and have moved this thread to Off Topic.
