WOW ESTEBAN !!!! Do more research !!! Is it off the coast by your house ?? The treasure now must be worth millions . The world is more populated now , so maybe someone here on the Geotech Forum will recognize this map and know the history and "If the treasure was found" or Not found !!! And YES, Esteban you should recieve a 10% "minimum fee" of the recovered treasure for posting this long lost article and map of 1934 !!!!!!!!!!!! Hello Esteban and everyone , Here is a good question , In 1934 50,000 British Pounds is worth how many British Pounds today in "2008" ???? $200,000 or $2,000,000 ??? Last night I was searching to see gold values and international currency rates of then "1934" and now , the only thing I find so far was that in 1934 gold was just raised to $35.00 an ounce from $20 an ounce . I found no exact value of the pound for 1934 . Anyway , I will copy the photos that Esteban posted , but there are many Islands in the south seas and I have a strong feeling the treasure still exists .......Here is something else very interesting...... From the Public library I read a book called "Gold prospecting in the Pacific Northwest" and in 1810 , two immigrants from Norway or Denmark settled northwest of Portland , Oregon , very close to Astoria , Oregon by the mouth of the Columbia River . This big piece of property or land the two owned included "Columbia River" frontage , meaning they were right next to the Columbia river . Anyway , quoted in the book , from relatives of the two brothers : that sometime after 1810 , $200,000 in Gold Bars were buried in , on or next to the river and to this day have "NOT BEEN RECOVERED" !!!!!!!!!!........ And over the years especially in recent times , many people have looked like crazy , but no luck !! I am sure the gold is still there and worth "Millions Today" !! I believe it is buried very deep 20-30 feet minimum , possibly beneath a huge oak tree . When I have time , I will post more information from this book . My Metal Detecting /Prospecting area of interest is northern Nevada only , not Oregon !!! So any Geotech Members living in the pacific northwest , I would suggest getting this book and reading it !!!!!!!!!! I think in the letter are clues. The letter is in English, but the person wich sign it is called J. L. Trinidad. Trinidad is a Spanish name, maybe has relation with Trinidad island. This was famous route of pirats and Trinidad was attacking by them. Maybe J. L. sounds as "jail"... who knows...

Hello Again Esteban ., How many Islands are in the south seas ??? That Island on the map has a unique shape with a tiny island to the east of its bay labeled 966 . If someone studies the map you posted , and studies current south sea maps , they will hopefully find a match and the name of the island . And if no treasure has ever been found , the island certainly will not be famous , YET !!! Unless it is a tourist hot-spot :cool:....I am looking at south sea maps now . Hopefully its the south sea islands , south of Japan !!! If we find out this Treasure has not been found we will call it "Estebans Treasure Island " :D:D..The article says it was buried only at 8 feet , not very deep !!! And hopefully it is not Trinidad / Barbados south of Florida , Because many treasures have been found there already !!!! I am going to check maps again , also please let me know if you find more articles , maps or information. .This is a great "maybe unsolved" mystery you un-covered !!...Thank-You........Regards........Eugene

Check Hogan Island in the Bass straits north of Tasmania. Close but I think it's a bit too large.

-If the real map was the round one (as it seems logical), i wonder from where comes the larger "square" one? only on that one we can see the other land.
-If the island has never been discovered, wich i doubt , we now have a tool that no one could dream of before: Google Earth.
There is no harm in going back to kid´s treasure seeking :)

Seems the island of the treasure map! But the text saids "uncharted", not "never has been discovered".

Could be this Isla Marisol?
See attached picture, not very clear , but seems similar in some aspect.

There is a treasure story that could fit the date.
The treasure is supposed to be buried on this island. The island lies in the Atlantic Ocean many hundreds of miles from any civilization.
I made an expedition there in 1982. I had some PI metal detectors, but the ground was full of Basalt rocks that set the detector off.
So this is a metal detector story too.

For the treasure hunting story, I think it is better to post it on THunting.com (http://www.thunting.com/thunting/links/pages/Metal_Detecting/)

Considering that the round map is the original, there is no indication of which side is North.
I will post the story of the Selvagem Island treasure on thunting.com.

There are off course many other possibilities. However, I have been on Selvagem looking for the treasure. Pithy I did not have the map with the location.
Searching with the metal detectors was not possible. I had the best of the time, with 4 ft coil, to sweep large areas, but the hot rocks made the search impossible.
Ah, if I had had the discriminating PI that I have now......

If you look carefully, you will see on the round map the trip, WNW100 fathoms then WSW, so this will give you the North.I think .
