Hi, can anyone tell me what the difference between the SR and SSI is? According to a technical guide (from Analytical Spectral Devices, Inc.) I am reading, the SR is “a measure of the narrowest spectral feature that can be resolved” while the SSI “of a spectrometer is the interval, in wavelength units, between data points in the measured spectrum”.
I don’t really understand how these 2 can be different for if a machine can detect a reading every 10nm (ie its SSI is 10nm), then won’t it also be able to pick out a spectral feature that is 10nm wide (ie resolution of 10nm)? Unless of course, consecutive points along the measured spectrum cannot be trusted to represent true values, and the resolution is determined by non-consecutive points.
