In the early 1990's Bill Morgan can out with the Soundwitch which was a piezo tweeter (4.2 Khz +- a few hundred hz) used like a frequency generator. This is exactly the same as the colorado gold sticks sold on ebay that claim to be "bran new" (biggest piece of crap ever to hit the LRL market). You can build your own for about $5. from Radio Shack. Morgan also said you can hook up a loudspeaker to a frequency generator to get a much more accurate unit. Or add a small amplifier like they use on ipod or mp3 if needed. Morgan said you can hear a slight difference in the tone when you cross the signal line. More later.

Bill Morgan says he doesn't know how it works. He thinks the sound just goes to the ear of the person and acts as a reference. I don't know. I get what I call a "hearing blink" when I cross the signal line. The sound seems to go dead for an instant, like those sound cancelling headphones. Morgan says you can hear a difference in the sound and it's possible some sound meter might be able to detect this unless it really is all in your mind. I've looked into some meters but the only one I think will work (goes down to 0.1 hz) costs $200. I found some software for $50 but haven't got motivated enough to buy it and see if it will do anything.

Here is an idea. Put this buzzer on the hand that you hold your L-rod in. Grasp the L-rod, the buzzer goes off, and auto-magically tunes the response from your L-rod, to just that of the buzzer frequency.
No batteries required. Just wind up the buzzer and you are good to go for several sweeps of the L-rod.
I understand a lab in N. Mexico checked out the frequency of these buzzers and it hits right in the range for Gold and Silver.
Since the buzzer is "sandwiched" in between your hand and the L-rod, you could call it The Sandwitch Enhanced Dowsing Thingy.

I wish to warn anyone who is thinking about spending more than $5 on this type of equipment. It is totally obnoxious to anyone nearby. All you need is the piezo tweeter and a battery and you can save $50 instead of ebay.

And if Morgan is right, the sound spectrum analyzer won't do anything and won't work in a noisy environment anyway. I suppose I'm going to have to get the software someday and find out. The one I saw is called Peretson Strobosoft. The way I look at it is if it works you can wear ear plugs so it don't drive you nuts. Maybe a dog would work better.
