  • Custom Detector faceplate

Where does everyone get those professional looking faceplate for their home built detector?

I use Visio to make the design, then laser print on a waterproof adhesive label. Gives a matte finish that's reasonably durable; a clear label on top of that improves durability but gives a glossy look that doesn't do well outdoors.

Check out this on my Projects Page:

      http://www3.telus.net/chemelec/Projects/Boxes/Boxes.htm

      My Completed Box.
I Create my Decal's in a small Cad Program and Reverse Print them onto "Transparency Film".
Than Spray them with "3M's Spray Mount Adhesive", on the Inked Side, let dry and than apply them to the plastic.
Because they are Reverse Printed, the writing Can't rub off.
This method can Give a Very Professional Look and stans up well out doors too..

And Using a Color Printer, You could make them Really Fancy.
But the Colors used on injet Prints MIGHT FADE In Sunlight.

      Hope this Helps............Gary

I use a CAD programme to do the layout (Canvas), usually black background white lettering printed on injet, then I plastify the paper with a hot document plastifier and use double sided tape to fix it to the front panel.
I've been doing this for a while now, seems to stand up ok outside but I wouldn't risk it in the pouring rain!
